We launched our campaign “What’s Your Number?” to encourage men and women aged between 40 – 60 to contact their GP practice and have their blood pressure checked.
High blood pressure is one of Blackpool’s biggest silent killers. But it is preventable.
It rarely has any symptoms, so the only way for you to know your number is to visit your GP practice and have your blood pressure measured regularly.
We do not know exactly what causes high blood pressure, but for most people it is usually a combination of lifestyle factors. You are at higher risk if you:
- Don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables
- Eat too much salt
- Are not active enough
- Are overweight
- Drink too much alcohol
If you’re aged between 40 -60, contact your GP practice and get your blood pressure checked. If you know your number, you know your risk. And, if you know the dangers, you can make simple changes that can prevent you suffering heart disease or stroke.
Getting your blood pressure checked takes five minutes. Five minutes that could save your life.
