A local GP practice has gained national recognition for the quality and safety of its organisation.
St Paul’s Medical Centre in North Shore, has been awarded the prestigious Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) practice accreditation, becoming the first practice in Blackpool to be recognised.
The practice had to meet a set of 78 quality and safety standards that focussed on areas of practice organisation and management processes.
The practice was required to submit evidence to show that it has met at least 80 per cent of the standards established by the RCGP in partnership with the University of Manchester, and in collaboration with the General Medical Council, Royal College of Nursing, Care Quality Commission, Department of Health and Patient Groups.
The standards reflect key aspects of primary care, particularly the organisational systems and processes that ensure delivery of safe and quality care, facilitate on going team development and recognise the contribution to quality improvement that can be made by the whole practice team.
Dr Colin Scott, senior partner GP at the practice said: “Our practice motto is ‘we care for you; we care about you’ and working towards and then achieving RCGP practice accreditation is all part of our commitment to driving up standards at both St Paul’s and Ashfield Medical Centres.
“It is good that the high quality of healthcare we provide for our patients has been recognised, but we do not rest on our laurels and continue to look for ways to improve further. We are fortunate to have a great team and benefit from the support of patients through our much valued Patient Reference Group.”
Chairman of NHS Blackpool Clinical Commissioning Group, Roy Fisher presented the practice with the award. He said: “I am delighted to be able to present this award to St Paul’s Medical Centre on behalf of the CCG and I’d like to extend congratulations to all of the practice team. This award reflects their great dedication and teamwork to provide high quality, safe effective health care for patients – something we as a CCG fully support.”
